Facts:

  • The Greeks were the first to use mechanics and invented screws, bolts, and gears.

  • The Greeks invented the first automaton, called "The Servant of Philos" which would pour wine.

  • The Greeks also tinkered with the first steam-powered engine, though it was not used practically.

  • In regards to war, the Greeks used advanced weopanry technology to defend their cities and to attack opposing threats.

Facts:

  • The ancient Greeks believed in magical items such as amulets or tablets, which they thought could prevent disasters, and protect them.

  • There were hundreds of different gods for different scenarios, e.g. Demeter - God of the Harvest or Ares - God of war.

  • Different households prayed to different Gods, depending on their needs.

  • Athenians believed Athena (goddess of wisdom/strategy) fought Poseidon to become the guardian of Athens.

  • The Greeks believed the Gods had the power to shape-shift and use magic

  • Oracles would inhale natural gasses as they believed it allowed them to communicate with the Gods and predict the future.

Art Movement

Facts:

  • The design of pottery evolved from a geometric style in 1100BCE to the inclusion and focus on figures during the Black-Figure period in 750BCE.

  • Art grew to include depictions of mythological scenes and historical events and figures.

  • The design of sculptures also developed from rigid simplistic designs to include finite detail and precision. It went from rough to refine over the course of 400 years.

  • The sculptures of Ancient Greece also used to be in colour, however over time they have faded to show the marble underneath.
